15 Month Checkup

Okay, so this post is a little late.  Hailey had her 15 month checkup last Tuesday, the 15th and I’m just getting around to posting about it.  So, here is a quick update:

Weight: 22 lbs 10 oz (60th percentile)

Height: 31 and 1/4 inches (85th percentile)

She is healthy and on track developmentally.

Hailey also had to get a couple of vaccines and after the first shot she looked at me and said, “All done.”  It just about broke my heart because she was pleading with me to help her and of course I couldn’t.  I think I hate the shots more than she does because I start dreading them days before the appointment and continue to feel bad about long after she has forgotten.

Now as you know I have been planning to talk to Hailey’s doctor about the unusual thing she does with her eyes, which I posted about here.  Many of you have been emailing me to see how things went, so I thought I’d save myself some time and tell all of you here.

Hailey’s regular pediatrician is out on maternity leave so we saw a different doctor this time. I was kind of glad about this because I look at it as getting another opinion.  This doctor said she thinks it sounds like weak eye muscles (which a few of you suggested to me in the comments of my other post and also in a few emails you sent me).  Of course without seeing it happen it is hard for the doctor to know.  She said I really need to work on catching it on video.  She told me if she referred me to a neurologist right now that it would take 5 to 6 months to actually get in to see one.  If I can get it on video and it seems concerning to Hailey’s pediatrician they can fast track the appointment and we might only have to wait a month.

This doctor also said to keep Hailey’s follow up appointment with the eye doctor.  I had really thought about canceling it because I was thinking that this is more of a neurological issue than an eye issue.  But, the doctor told me that I should keep the appointment and if possible bring in a video to the eye doctor just in case it could be weak eye muscles.

On Saturday Hailey decided that she was not going to take her morning nap.  She was really tired and when she is tired the eye rolling happens more often.  So, when it was time for lunch I set up the camera and taped her the entire time.  It happened several times and they were all caught on tape.  So this morning I called the doctors office and they told me to bring the tape in, which I did.  I haven’t heard from the doctor yet as to what her opinion is now that she has actually seen what I am trying to describe.

I am also going to make a copy to bring in to Hailey’s eye doctor so that he can look at it before her next appointment (Feb 4th).

Thank you all again for all of your comments, emails and prayers.  I will keep you all posted.

I’m glad you were able to get it on tape. At least now you can show someone else to find out what it may be if anything.

That’s great she is on track with everything!

I am so glad you caught it on video. Way to go girl!
Let us know what you find out. If it is lazy eye sometimes it fixes itself.

That’s great that you were able to catch it on video so quickly!! Let us know what the dr.’s say! I hope you can get it figured out because I know that I would be worrying over it like crazy if it was my child!

Oh - that is so great that you caught it on tape - it’s so hard for the doctors to diagnose when they never see the problem - right? I hope the news is not serious - I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care. Kellan

I need to make my Toddler’s two-year appointment and I’m dreading it SO MUCH because of the shots. I know it’s harder on us than them, but that doesn’t make me any more interested in making that call.

Good luck with the follow-ups on the eyes. Hopefully you’ll end up with the “easiest” outcome.

Oh my. You have to be positive. It is the only way. Your daughter will feel it and you will feel better knowing all will be ok - make sense? The Secret is something I’ve been reading lately…the law of attraction says like thoughts will bring like to you. Hang in there. I’ll say more prayers.

p.s. Now, come by my place when you have a chance. I have bling. :)

I remeber the days. Sorry to sat they won’t get any better. Just keep them for the health of your child. My oldest birthday is Wed. and I can remember when I went through all the Dr.’s visits. I can’t say her age because she is having a give away on her blog.

I’m adding your precious daughter to my prayer journal. One of our granddaughters at about 18 months started having eye trouble. Sometimes they’d cross, sometimes they’d wander out. The Ped. Opth. prescribed glasses for her which she absolutely loved because she could see clearly probably for the first time. When it was time to take a nap she’d cling to her glasses not wanting them off and say, “My eyes! My eyes!” Then last June at 3 years and 4 months, she had eye surgery to correct it because they started wondering again, even with the glasses and patching. It’s almost cleared up totally now - about 85% of the time AND her vision cleared up. I know your daughter’s is totally different. I just want you know there are things that can be done once they figure it out.
    Blessings, Marsha
