My Little Ballerina

November 21st, 2009 Melanie Posted in Hailey | No Comments »

For a while now Hailey has been telling me that she wants to be a ballerina.  I know I should have looked into it over the summer but I kept putting it off.  Finally I asked my friends on facebook the other night where I could take Hailey for ballet classes.  I found a couple of places to look into and called them.  Both places are going to let us try a free class next week to see if we like it.  One is on Monday evening and the other on Tuesday evening.

Both groups are getting ready to order their costumes for the recital in the spring.  So we’ll have to make a decision right away and pay for Hailey’s costume.  We’ll also have to buy some dance shoes.  The Monday night class does ballet and tap, so we’d have to get shoes for both of those.  The Tuesday night class does ballet, tap and jazz.  I don’t even know if jazz requires special shoes- I’m pretty clueless about dance related stuff.  But I did find some really cute dance shoes on Zappos but I’m going to wait to make sure Hailey likes the class before I buy anything.

Both classes cost the same amount per month, but one class is one hour per week (the one with ballet, tap and jazz) and the other class is 45 minutes per week (ballet and tap).  The shorter class is closer to our house and right on the way home from preschool.  The hour long class is a little further away and not on our way home.  So both have some pluses and minuses.  I guess we’ll just try each one out and see what we think and pick the one that fits Hailey’s personality better.  And then I’ll have to pay for the registration fee, the monthly fee, buy dance shoes and pay for the costumes. Ugh!!  But I know Hailey will look soooo cute, and have tons of fun, so it’ll be worth it!

Big Changes

November 18th, 2009 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Me | 7 Comments »

A couple of weeks ago there was a big change here at our house.  I was offered a job and after much going back and forth in the decision I finally decided to take the job.  I am working 32 hours each week as an Assistant Director at a child care center.  A few days each week I go in at 7 to open the center and work until around 2.  Then the other days I go in around 1 pm and stay until 6pm to close the center.  The hours are great and my boss is super nice and soooo flexible with the hours I work.  She let me make my schedule work so that Hailey and I can still do the activities we have been a part of- like MOPS and story time at the library, etc.

The place I am working at has a pretty impressive preschool curiculum.  And since Hailey asks all of the time if she can go play with some kids we decided to enroll her in their program.

Here are a few pictures on her first day of preschool.

All ready to go!

So far things at work have been good for me.  I enjoy the job I am doing.  Hailey loves preschool and is doing great!  It’s been a big change and we’re still working on getting used to it- but so far it’s been good.

Leaving On A Jet Plane…

November 17th, 2009 Melanie Posted in Blogging | No Comments »

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of British Airways. All opinions are 100% mine.

Okay- so I’m not really leaving on a jet plane.  That isn’t something I can do right now.  It’s a busy time of year and I like to be home for the holidays.  But there is no reason that I can’t think about taking a dream vacation.  Now as you know if you’re a regular reader we love to go to Disney World on our vacations.  But, as it turns out- there are other places in the world I would love to visit.

For one, I’d love to be able to go to London some day.  Or maybe Rome or Paris.  Hopefully at some point in my life I’ll be able to visit at least one of those places.  Well, right now British Airways is making that a bit more affordable.  You have to book your trip by November 19th so you don’t have much time to make your decision about whether or not you want to go.  Your trip has to be booked between now and May 23, 2010.  There are a few dates that are excluded, so be sure to check that out.  But the prices are great!  If I were to take my dream vacation to Paris there are prices starting as low as $250 each way for the flight.

Not only are the prices great but they also offer an upgraded experience by giving things like complimentary food and cocktails on all flights as well as over 200 on-demand entertainment options.  Be sure to check out what British Airways has to offer- maybe you’ll get to take the trip of a lifetime!

Growing Up

November 14th, 2009 Melanie Posted in Hailey | 5 Comments »

My Little Miss has grown up so much lately.

Before we went to Disney World I had decided that when we got home Hailey would officially start wearing underwear. She had been in pull ups for a year and I had never really pushed the whole potty training thing.  So, after we came home she put on her princess underwear.  I knew she was ready and it was very easy.  The first day she only had one accident. Since then there have been a few accidents here and there- but for the most part she does perfect.  I am so glad I didn’t push the whole thing and stress either of us out.  I just waited until I knew she was ready- and she was. No more pull ups!

The next big deal happened about 3 weeks ago.  Hailey and I had been talking for a while about how it was time for her to be a big girl and give up her “sah-sahs” (pacifiers).  So one day when she got up in the morning she said, “I think I should send my sah-sahs to Danielle and Logan.”  Those are two of her cousins who are babies.  I agreed with her, but I wasn’t sure she meant it.  When nap time came I didn’t mention the sah-sahs and neither did she.  She wouldn’t take a nap because she was so busy talking she couldn’t fall asleep.  When Rich asked her if she wanted her sah-sah so she could go to sleep she started to cry and said she was giving them to Danielle and Logan.  That night at bedtime she had a hard time falling asleep because she was talking non-stop.  But there were never any tears.  The next day we boxed up the sah-sahs to “mail” them to her cousins.  As we were getting ready to send them she decided she wanted to send both to her cousin Anika.  I bought Hailey the new Tinkerbell DVD that we watched together to celebrate her being a big girl.  Once or twice she asked me when Anika was going to be sending the sah-sahs back- and I told her that if Anika sent them back we would have to return the DVD.  She decided she’d like to keep the DVD and that Anika could keep the sah-sahs.  She never once cried about sah-sahs.  I had worried so much about how hard it was going to be to take it away from her.  I am so glad I never pushed it though- when she was ready to give it up, she did it.

I know these are both great things.  And while they make me happy- they make me sad too… no more signs of a baby here at my house.  Hailey is growing up way too fast!

Halloween Festivities

November 7th, 2009 Melanie Posted in Celebrations, Hailey | 4 Comments »

I am finally getting around to having a few minutes to blog about all of the fun we had last weekend for Halloween.

Livin With Me

On Thursday Hailey and I went with our MOPS group to a local nursing home to go trick or treating.  We had a great time and Hailey found some other princesses- a couple of Snow Whites and a Sleeping Beauty that she a great time with.

Livin With Me

On Friday we went to a Halloween party at the library.  We had story time with singing and dancing and stories (of course).

Then the kids made a craft.

And went trick or treating around the library.

Later that night we carved Hailey’s pumpkin- she loved cleaning it out.

Livin With Me

And she loved playing with the seeds.

Here is Hailey’s pumpkin- with the silly face she picked for it to have.

On Saturday we went to Trunk or Treating at the church we have been going to.  It was raining so it had to be moved inside.  There were games set up- Hailey is playing the ring toss game here.  And there was lots of candy being passed out too.

Livin With Me

Then it was time for the actual Trick or Treating.  We started at Gramma and Pa’s house.

Hailey was good about saying “trick or treat” to get her candy.  And then instead of saying thank you after she got her candy she’d say “trick or treat” again.  She really loved trick or treating this year!
